As the world continues to re-open and COVID appears to be under control for the most part (we hope), I am looking forward to 2023. While I was much more intentional with my life in 2022 than in previous years, I feel I can be even more intentional in 2023. You can read about my 2022 Year in Review to see how I feel I fared this past year.
I feel this coming year has the potential to be truly transformational for me on many fronts including work, early retirement (maybe), travel, and overall life enjoyment. If I am being honest with myself, I find myself at a bit of a cross roads with several potential options available to me.
Choice is good but it can also lead to analysis paralysis and I have to admit, I am finding it hard to jump. Being pushed off the cliff is often easier as it forces the decision when I’ve been avoiding making it. The struggle is real. 2023 let’s goooooo!!
2023 Goals
Investments/Dividends
- Earn $70,000 in dividends
- Max out my TFSA again ($6,500 this year) and continue to invest in my taxable account (not sure it makes sense to max out my RRSP in 2023 – depends on my work scenario)
- Close on my vacation rental investment property and successfully rent it out to guests (a lot of people have asked me to do a post on buying a property internationally and lessons learned which I plan to write in 2023)
Employment
- Go part-time at work (4 days a week with Fridays off securing a long weekend every weekend) if I stay with my current employer
- I am head hunted several times a year. I am currently being head hunted for a potentially lucrative new gig. While I’m hesitant to move to something new and hustle hard again, if the compensation is sizeable enough, I may be tempted to hustle for another year or so. I know, I know!! Another year syndrome right?
- In the alternative, the option exists for me to go “work optional” by taking on a contract client or two and quit my current 9-5 job.
Early Retirement? (or continued Early Retirement Preparation?)
- I could take on a client or two in early retirement. Doing so would be the push I need to quit my 9-5 job, if that’s the direction I pursue.
- Travel Hacking:
- Continue to credit card hack for airline and hotel points. (I just signed up today for the Amex Bonvoy Marriott hotel points card to obtain the signup bonus)
- Perform some house sits locally on www.trustedhousesitters.com to build up legitimacy on the platform so that securing trusted house sits in the future in eventual early retirement will be easier
Blog/Social Media
- Hit 10K followers on Twitter
- Two blog posts a month
- Four Instagram posts a week
- Revamp my blog and Dividend Daddy logo
- Take a course on Twitter growth and monetization strategies
- Develop educational material through online course development and sales including potentially 1:1 consulting
- Attend the EconoMe conference in March 2023 (See you there?)
Personal
- Start “new” routine of 10pm bedtime and 5am wake ups (Right now I am 11pm or midnight and a 7am wake up after falling out of my early wake up routine during COVID)
- Go to gym regularly in the mornings at 6am at least 4 times a week (lost this routine during COVID)
- Research local fitness classes and sign up for a membership (my old gym I attended regular fitness classes at closed down during COVID and I miss it)
- Swim weekly at the public gym near my home
- Dry January (no alcohol) with the potential to go dryer for longer or at the very least, lower/less alcohol in 2023
What do you think? Am I pushing myself sufficiently hard enough? Not hard enough?
