Before turning to 2022, I’ll take a look back at the goals I set for 2021. Although fairly modest, I was successful in achieving them all (mostly) and getting close to my $50,000 in annual dividends goal last year.
Review: My 2021 goals and outcomes:
- Investing in U.S. dividend paying equities using Norbert Gambit [Achieved]
- Invested in: $VZ, $JNJ, $UL, $INTC, $MO
- Dividend/Distribution income of $50,000 [Not achieved]
- Total was $48,844.87 (a difference of – $1,155.13)
- Set up and track annual spending using Mint [Achieved]
- Set up and track net worth using Wealthica [Achieved]
- Join the FIRE community via blogging [Achieved]
- I launched this blog in February 2021
In 2022, I am going to be much more intentional about designing my future life (and financial life) than I ever have been.
My 2022 goals:
- Work
- Work towards leaving the company 9-5 and work for myself as consultant in my field.
- This will give me the flexibility to work more or less on my own volition and to work from different locales rather than being tied to my home country of Canada as I am currently (but for COVID which enabled me to spend two months this past fall 2021 in Mexico working remotely).
- This will also give me the flexibility to work less than I am currently which is full-time plus (plus meaning extra hours in the evening and sometimes on weekends).
- This will also provide me with a way to flexibility earn income in my pending early retirement (if I choose to pull the plug as early as a year and half from now) which can help fight any potential sequence of return risk.
- Monetize my skills through online course development and sales including 1:1 consulting
- Develop course content and platform as a start
- Grow my personal audience for online course sales and consulting services through my personal Twitter and LinkedIn
- Grow my personal Twitter to 5K followers
- Grow my personal LinkedIn to 4K connections
- Work towards leaving the company 9-5 and work for myself as consultant in my field.
- Dividends
- $60,000 in annual dividends
- This may be a stretch goal given I was $1,155.13 short of my 2021 dividend goal of $50K.
- $60,000 in annual dividends
- Vacation Rental Property
- Buy a vacation rental property
- This one is cheating a bit as I bought a vacation rental property in Mexico late December 2021 although I don’t take possession until October 2022 so I’m including it as a goal this year.
- My goal with this property is to rent it out while I’m not using it so renters cash flow the property and pay it off.
- My goal is to spend some and eventually more/all of winter in the hotter climate, including doing remote work.
- Buy a vacation rental property
- Dividend Daddy Blog / Twitter
- Write two blog posts a month
- In 2021, I wrote 19 blog posts in the 11 months this blog was live.
- Grow Twitter followers to 5K
- As of Jan. 3rd, my Twitter account has 1,863 followers.
- Write two blog posts a month
- Education
- Educate self on Twitter and LinkedIn growth and monetization strategies
- Read or listen to several self-improvement/financial books on this list or take the “cheat course”.
- Educate self on travel point accumulation strategies
What are your goals for 2022? Lets accomplish them together.
